NGC4565 in Coma Berenices

NGC4565.jpg

NGC4565 in Coma Berenices. NGC4565 was one of the first NGC-numbers I could remember! Heschel discovered this classic example of an edge-on galaxy in 1785. It's distance is estimated to be 31 lightyears. The smaller galaxy in the lower right corner is NGC4562..

EXPOSURE DATA: TAL 150 PM 150mm f/5 Newtonian telescope on a Vixen SP equatorial mount; modified Starlight Xpress MX5-C camera, 30 out of 47 60s exposures, from my backyard in The Hague, April 29, 2005. I had a lot of trouble with fog drifting in from the North Sea. Although I'm quite content, I'm afraid that my ultimate NGC4565 picture is due for next year.

Below an older exposure (spring 2004) made with a modified webcam is shown.
